
The processed heading error signal activates the series actuator. Since there is no automatic trim
in the yaw control linkage, the pilot has to refer from time to time to the yaw API.
Fly-through characteristics:
• In
hover:
To change the heading reference datum the pilot acts on the antitorqe pedals. The pedal motion
detector by detecting the pilot input on the pedals, switches the yaw channel into syncronization.
To freezer a new reference in the heading memory two conditions must be fulfi lled:
No pedal motion
Yaw rate below 1.5 degrees per second
This arrangement permits precise acquisition of the new headings without jerking.
• In level fl ight:
The pilot acts on the cyclic stick in roll (automatic turn coordination is ensured as soon as bank
angle exceeds 5 degrees. After turn completion, the new heading reference is frozen from the mo-
ment the heading rate falls below approximately 1.5 degrees per second. It is therefore the pilot’s
responsibility to smoothly roll out of the turn.
Turn coordination:
When the T/C mode is engaged and the airspeed is in excess of 50 knots, the yaw series actuator
receives a signal depending on the yaw rate for yaw damping, and on the lateral acceleration and
the roll angle for turn coordination.
This mode becomes effective as soon as the bank angle is greater than 5 degrees. It is automati-
cally disengaged when airspeed falls below 50 Kts.
NOTE
During automatic lateral mode coupling, turn coordination is not submitted to any threshold
value in roll
CAUTION:
Any sideslip induced by collective pitch setting changes or airspeed variation must be
corrected by a pilot’s action on the relevant anti-torque pedal.
