4.4 Installation
HiD plug-in isolators are factory prong-polarised for insertion in the proper –polarised- Termination Board position.
When installing a new isolator module on a Termination Board, you should:
a) Attach a label (or directly write) on the yellow area under each module to identify the location of the isolator.
b) Carefully centre the polarisation holes and mate the two connectors, then gently press down.
c) Push down the yellow tabs on each side of the module to fix it to the panel (no tools required).
d) To remove the modules simply lift the yellow tabs and unplug.
Tag labels are available (92 tags on each A4 page) to be inserted on the transparent lid located at the top of each
isolator module. This is useful to identify the loop when the module is inserted.
To properly connect the Termination Board, the function and location of each termination point is first to be
identified, please refer to section 5 for details. The blue colour of terminal blocks identifies the hazardous side
connections. Wires of this side must be segregated according to standard BS5345 Pt. 4, ANSI/ISA RP-12.6 or to
other applicable national regulations. To properly identify each signal Elcon can supply labels to be fixed on the
Termination Board.
Please refer to the
Termination Board User Instruction Manual (IM-ENG 112/GB)
for a detailed discussion of
all installation and commissioning issues.
4.5 Board polarisation
The modules are provided with 4 prongs protruding from the bottom of the case, to mate the corresponding holes
on the termination board.
Polarisation prevents the interchange of barriers having different (higher) safety parameters. All modules are
factory polarised according to the applicable safety parameter group by cutting the required prongs.
The Termination Board can also be factory polarised according to the customer specification by inserting the
required plugs. When there is no customer specification, the board is supplied with all holes obstructed by plugs.
Spare plugs are available on request.
Please refer to the
Termination Board User Instruction Manual (IM-ENG 112/GB)
for a detailed discussion of
polarisation issue, ELCON WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED WHEN THE
PROCEDURE DESCRIBED IN THE MANUAL IS NOT FOLLOWED.
4.6 Configuration
To configure a module, you have to remove it from Termination Board to access the side dip-switches, basic
configuration instructions are inserted on the dip-switches side of the module. Some modules could have front
configuration switches.
For more details about individual modules configuration please refer to Section 5.
