9.8 Geometrical calculations
This chapter deals with the description of the geometric calculations supplied by the SETHY SIX
Presetter; for each function, follow the procedure to take measurements.
It is possible to measure geometrical bodies in three different ways: automatic, manual or by choosing
points or comparing to a grid displayed on screen.
9.8.1 Automatic geometric modes
Automatic measurement searches the type of body requested on the tool’s profile: angle or radius,
displaying the calculated value in real time.
Set the tool in the most suitable position to be measured, clean it and focus it, then decide if the result
displayed on the screen is good enough.
Choose the “area of interest” function (para. 9.8.8), to delineate the working area by addressing the
calculus in the desired area.
Automatic measurements are limited: they only operate on profiles which are perpendicular to the axis
where the measurement takes place: it is not possible, for example, to measure with precision the angle of
a conical helical mill, as the cone working profile can’t be seen on a simple section.
9.8.2 Automatic angle measurement
This function is active both in fixed grid mode and in autocollimation, it allows you
to automatically identify and calculate the value of the angle of the framed profile
and to acquire it for the tool table or rapid printing of a label.
When it is activated, the function works in real time; this means that the profile is
constantly examined and the operator decides if the data acquired is exact or not.
As in autocollimation, the operator has to make the visualized image as clear as possible in order to
measure it: focusing, cleaning from dust and chips, correct framing.
