USING OF APPLIANCE
Before use
Unpack the appliance and remove all the packing materials.
Examine the device to make sure it’s complete and has not suff ered any damage. You should only use the device if
all parts are present and undamaged.
Some new devices may have a protective fi lm over the battery cover. Remove any protective fi lm, open the bat-
tery cover and insert a new battery by following the instructions in the ‘Battery replacement’ section of this guide.
Use and operational modes of kitchen scales
The device can display the weight of objects on the weighing plate – up to a maximum of 5 kg (in Imperial units
up to 11 lbs.) - in four measuring units on the LCD display:
• in grams (gs) • kilograms (kgs)
• in ounces (ozs) • pounds (lbs)
The measuring unit required can be set by the measuring unit selection button.
Before use, place the kitchen scales on a horizontal, fl at area of a table or workplate.
Do not leave anything under the scales which might cause the support legs to topple or be unevenly balanced,
or block the bottom plate of the scales (e.g. napkin), as this can aff ect weighing accuracy. Ensure there is enough
space around the scales covers to prevent contact with walls, furniture or any other object that can cause false
measurements.
Switch the appliance on by touching the ON/OFF button. The appliance will carry out a quick self-test; each part of
the display is checked during this test.
When the self-test has fi nished and the display has returned to normal, place the item you’re weighing onto the
glass surface. Make sure the item isn’t touching anything else, such as a nearby wall or other surface, because
this will aff ect the measurement. The weight will be shown on the LCD display using the units you’ve selected
previously.
• When using the device, remember that kitchen scales were designed for precise
weighing of small items, and must not be overloaded; try to estimate the weight of the
article to prevent overloading. For larger weights, try to divide the load into smaller
units before weighing. Kitchen scales can measure up to 5 kg. Overloading can cause
irrepairable damage which qualifi es as heavy handling.
• The item to be weighed must be placed in the middle of the scale. Avoid asymetric loading.
• If the LCD display shows „O-ld” or „H”, it means the item you’re weighing is too heavy and is
overloading the scales. Remove it from the glass weighing surface immediately.
If the item you’re weighing cannot be put directly onto the glass surface - perhaps because it’s a fi ne powder or
a liquid - then you may use an appropriately-sized light bowl. The scales can automatically deduct the weight
of this bowl (known as the ‘tare’), which avoids any need to weigh the bowl separately. To weight items in a
bowl, switch on the scales and wait for the self-test. When the display shows zero, place the empty bowl on the
glass weighing surface. The bowl’s weight will be displayed. Now touch the TARE button. This will automatically
compensate for the weight of the bowl and will cause the display to show zero again. You can now weigh solids or
liquids that are placed in the bowl.
Important! When weighing with taring, you must respect the maximum total load bearing capacity of
5 kg when loading the weighing plate.
The device can also be used as a zero indicator because the LCD-screen can display negative values e.g. if you want
to weigh identical weights during a series of measurements or the diff erence from a reference gauge (excess or
defi cit of weight). This can be done by using taring measurement. In such cases taring must be performed after
weighing a reference weight, which must then be removed and a set of readings compared to this fi rst measure-
ment.
The appliance will automatically switch itself off when you’ve fi nished weighing. It can also be switched off by
pressing the ON/OFF button for a couple of seconds.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Warning! It is very important not to immerse the device or hold it under a jet of water!
• The kitchen scale’s external cover and the glass surface must be wiped with a smooth, damp cloth which
doesn’t leave fi bres, or is made of synthetic material. After cleaning wipe the cover with a dry cloth. Ensure
humidity or dirt does not enter the device.
• When cleaning the appliance, never use solvent (acetone, benzole, petrol, alcohol, etc.) as these may solve the
casing material, or the internal parts of the appliance if they get into. Do not use cleaning agents with coarse
or grinding eff ect.
