Safety rules
Warning
Read carefully the relevant safety rules before working on the battery (Sect. A 3, General safety rules). When under charge,
batteries produce explosive gases. Keep batteries away from heat sources, sparks or open flames.
Instructions for use
The battery is a sealed, maintenance-free type and therefore requires no servicing installation.
Notes
Always keep the battery clean. Apply grease around the battery terminal clamps to prevent corrosion.
Warning
Never remove the retainer bar (1) on the top of the cover or add more liquid to the battery. If the casing, the cover or the terminals
are broken, or if the sealing cap strip has been tampered with, the battery must be renewed.
Important
If the motorcycle is left unused for more than 30 days, remove the battery and store it in a safe, cool place.
Always charge the battery before the first use and after long storage periods - such as before selling the vehicle.
Removal of the battery
Notes
References (16) and (19) are the same as those indicated in the plates in the chapter “Routing of wiring on frame” in this section.
Remove the fuel tank (Sect. L 2, Removal of the fuel tank).
Release the elastic retaining strap (2), then withdraw the battery.
Remove the protective caps from the terminals, unscrew the screws of the terminals (16) and (19), always starting with the
negative terminal.
