AF Red Light Beam

The DÖRR DCF 50 Wi is fitted with an AF red light beam. AF reflex cameras require a minimum of

contrast for proper distance settings. In weak light conditions the available contrast of the object may

be insufficient for automatic focusing. In this case your flash projects a contrast pattern onto the object

when the camera´s shutter release is slightly touched. With the support of the AF red light beam, the

auto-focus system of your camera can now recognize structures and even in darkest rooms the exact

distance can be determined quickly and precisely. The AF red light beam covers a range of approx. 1 to

8 m.

Note: Depending on the camera model it may happen that the camera´s built-in AF red light beam

has priority. In this case the AF red light beam of the flash will not be activated.

Wireless TTL Flash (only for cameras featuring W-TTL)

For many objects a lateral flash is more advantageous then frontal flashing. Illumination will be more

balanced and thus more convenient. The DÖRR DCF 50 Wi is fitted with the advanced wireless TTL

function. You can enjoy creative photography with multiple lightings from various directions. Before

starting, you should be familiar with the following details:

Master Flash:

A master flash is required to control and release one or more distant flashes. Depending

on the camera model, the incorporated camera flash (Nikon) can take this function and/or a computer

flash can be mounted to the camera that is ready to fulfill the master function (Nikon, Canon).

Remote Flash:

The DÖRR DCF 50 Wi can be used as a remote flash (distant and not connected to the

camera). You can use one or more remote flashes. There is no limitation on the number of remote

flashes set in one time.

Groups:

In wireless photography you can assign remote flash units into any of the three groups:

A, B, or C. You can set the mode and output levels for each remote flash group.

Example:

•  Flashes in group A work in normal TTL mode

•  Flashes in group B work with TTL mode with 2/3 f-stop minus correction

•  Flashes in group C work with manual flash and ¼ power ratio

Depending on the camera model, different numbers of remote flash groups can be controlled.

Please read your camera’s user manual.

Channels:

It may happen on photo shootings, that many photographers work with similar flash

technology. In order to avoid interferences, the DÖRR DCF 50 Wi offers 4 channels (1,2,3 and 4)

for wireless operation. You can use the channel of your choice for communication between master

and remote flash. However, you need to make sure that both master and remote flash are set to the

same channel.

Wireless TTL Flash with DÖRR DCF 50 Wi – How to Proceed:

1.  Make sure that the slave mode switch is at OFF position.

2.  Press the MODE button until the STTL icon is shows up on the LCD and continue pressing MODE

until the desired channel and group are displayed, e.g. STTL 3B. When the wireless TTL mode

(STTL) is activated, you will see red AF light blinking at the flash front.

3.  Adjust the desired flash angle using the flashe’s ZOOM button.

4.  Now get the DÖRR DCF 50 Wi to the desired position and be aware that:

  •  It should not flash directly into

    the camera.

  •  The sensor for wireless TTL flash

    is not covered.

  •  There is no obstacle between

    master and slave flash. The

sensor at the remote flash must

    always be directed towards the

master flash. It is advisable to

position the remote flash in a

    way that the sensor points

exactly to the the master flash.

Then you can turn the flash

    reflector to the desired direction.

  •  The maximum wireless TTL flash

control range is app. 10m for frontal position and around 7m for lateral position of the remote flash

(can vary depending on the ambient light conditions).

  •  The remote flashes of one group should be position aside of each other.

  •  The sensitivity of the sensor for wireless TTL flash control at the remote flash can be strongly

reduced by direct sunlight. It may be necessary to protect the flash from direct sunlight using

    a shade or umbrella.

5.  Once all flashes are positioned properly, check the settings again. Now you can start taking

 pictures.

Slave Function

The DÖRR DCF 50 Wi can be released wirelessly by an external flash source (e.g. from another flash

unit). Slide the slave selector to position S. The photo sensor is active now. Place the flash at a

desired location. The light sensitive sensor now reacts on light reflections caused by the camera’s

incorporated flash or another flash and releases the DCF 50 Wi simultaneously. The TTL auto flash

mode is not active in slave mode. The flash will fire automatically with full power in manual flash mode.

Pressing the MODE button, you can reduce the flash power down ratio to 1/32.

Modern TTL flash systems are operating with pre-flashes fired in short sequences before the main

flash will fire. To ensure that the DÖRR DCF 50 Wi will fire in slave mode simultaneously with the main

flash, the pre-flashes must either be switched off or they must be ignored by the photo sensor. The

number of pre-flashes fired depends on the camera and flash model:
