3. As soon as you turn yourkey to the ON position,you
willsee your MIL symbolcome on as part of a normal
bulb check.
4. Approximately 15 secondslater,one oftwo thingswill
happen:
a. The MIL light will blink for approximately 5 sec-
ondsand then remain on untilthe firstengine crank or
the key is turned off.This means that your vehicle’s
OBD system is
notreadyand you should
notproceed
to the I/M station.
b. The MIL lightwillremain fully illuminated untilthe
firstengine crank or the key is turned off.This means
thatyour vehicle’s OBD system is
readyand you can
proceed to the I/M station.
If your OBD system is
not readyyou should see your
dealer or repair facility. If your vehicle was recently
serviced orhad a battery failure orreplacement,you may
need to do nothing more than drive your vehicle as you
normally would in orderforyourOBD system to update.
A recheck with the above testroutine may then indicate
thatthe system is now ready.
Regardless of whether your vehicle’s OBD system
is
ready or not ready, if the MIL symbol is illuminated
during normalvehicle operation,you should have your
vehicle serviced before going to the I/M station.The I/
station can failyourvehicle because the MIL symbolison
with the engine running.
