Drive ShaftConstantVelocity Joints
All four wheel drive models are equipped with four
constant velocity joints. Periodic lubrication of these
joints is notrequired.However,the jointbootshould be
inspected for externalleakage or damage periodically. If
externalleakage ordamage is evident,the jointbootand
grease should be replaced immediately. Continued op-
eration could result in failure of the joint due to water
and dirtcontamination ofthe grease. This would require
complete replacementofthe jointassembly.Refer to the
Service Manualfor the detailed replacementprocedure.
Body Lubrication
Locks and allbody pivotpoints, including such items as
seattracks, doors and hood hinges, should be lubricated
periodically to assure quiet, easy operation and to protect
against rust and wear. Prior to the application of any
lubricant, the parts concerned should be wiped clean to
remove dust and grit; after lubricating excess oil and
grease should be removed. Particular attention should
also be given to hood latching components to insure
proper function. When performing other underhood ser-
vices, the hood latch, release mechanism and safety catc
should be cleaned and lubricated.
The externallock cylinders should be lubricated twice
year, preferably in the fall and spring. Apply a small
amountofa high quality lubricantsuch as Mopar
Lock
Cylinder Lubricantdirectly into the lock cylinder.
W indshield W iper Blades
The rubberedgesofthe wiperbladesand the windshield
should be cleaned periodically with a sponge orsoftclot
and a mild nonabrasive cleaner. This willremove accu-
mulations ofsaltor road film.
Operation of the wipers on dry glass for long periods
may cause deterioration ofthe wiperblades.Always use
washerfluid when using the wipersto remove saltordirt
from a dry windshield.
