ExhaustSystem
The best protection against carbon monoxide entry into
the vehicle body isa properly maintained engine exhaust
system.
Whenevera change isnoticed in the sound ofthe exhaust
system, when exhaust fumes can be detected inside the
vehicle,or when the underside or rear of the vehicle is
damaged, have a competent mechanic inspect the com-
plete exhaustsystem and adjacentbody areasforbroken,
damaged, deteriorated, or mispositioned parts. Open
seams or loose connections could permitexhaustfumes
to seep into the passenger compartment. In addition,
inspectthe exhaustsystem each time the vehicle israised
for lubrication or oilchange.Replace as required.
W ARNING!
Exhaustgases can injure orkill. They contain carbon
monoxide (CO) which is colorless and odorless.
Breathing it can make you unconscious and can
eventually poison you.To avoid breathing CO,fol-
low the preceding safety tips.
Cooling System
Inspection
Coolant protection checks should be made at every 12
months (before the onset of freezing weather, where
applicable).Ifcoolantis dirty orrusty in appearance,t
system should be drained, flushed and refilled with fre
coolant.Check face of radiator for any accumulation of
bugs,leaves,etc.Ifdirty,clean the radiatorcore by gent
spraying waterfrom a garden hose atthe back ofthe core.
