Instrument Standby and Shutdown
There are two occasions when the instrument should not be totally shut
down, but left in standby mode. These are as follows:
Between analytical runs

For any other period up to one month
For periods of longer than a month, the instrument can be shut down but left
under vacuum or can be fully shut down.
In Between Analytical Runs
If the MSQ is to be left for more than 15 minutes between analytical runs,
the API gas flow can be turned off to conserve the supply. Follow the steps
described below:

Ensure that the LC flow has been turned off.
Open the MSQ Tune window in one of the following ways.
a. Double-click on the MSQ Tune shortcut icon shown on the
Windows desktop.
b. Click on the Start button and choose
Programs | Xcalibur | MSQ
Tune
.
c. Click with the right mouse button on the server icon on the
Windows taskbar and choose
Manual Tune
from the menu
displayed.
d. Click on Instrument Setup on the Home Page Road Map view. Click
on the MSQ button and then click on the text below the Tune bar
(“Access to tune allowing you to optimize or modify the system
settings”).
If the Per Method Parameters are not visible, click on the Show Per
Method Parameters slide bar to display them. Click on the Toggle
Nitrogen Gas button, to switch the nitrogen gas flow Off. The button
will turn from gray to green and the text will change from “On” to
“Off.”
