General Information
This appendix provides general system specifications and cabling
requirements for the DIGITAL Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100
adapter.
Physical Description
The Fast EtherWORKS PCI 10/100 adapter is a variable-height short
card that uses the 32-bit PCI bus connector. The adapter measures
95.3 mm (3.75 inches) by 129 mm (5.1 inches), and is constructed
using four-layer circuit board technology with two signal layers and
two power/ground layers.
Functional Components
The major functional components of the Fast EtherWORKS PCI
10/100 adapter are as follows:

Single 8-pin MJ connector that operates at either 10 Mb/s or
100 Mb/s (DE500 10/100 models)
•
Duplex SC connector (DE500-FA model)
•
DECchip 21143 (DE500-BA and DE500-FA), DECchip 21140A
(DE500-AA), and DECchip 21140 (DE500-XA)
•
LEDs that indicate speed (for DE500 10/100 models), transmit
and receive network activity, and link status
•
Remote boot ROM socket (for all models except the DE500-XA)
