Changing the PCM Encoding Scheme Used
by SCbus Linecards
There are two PCM encoding schemes used around the world: µ-Law and A-Law. µ-Law
is typically used by telephone switches in North America and Japan. A-Law is typically
used by telephone switches in South America and Europe. You might need to change the
PCM encoding scheme used by Dialogic SCbus linecards if the OneBox platform is
moved to another country or connected to a telephone switch using a different PCM
encoding scheme. Refer to the appropriate section for your OneBox version.
To change the PCM encoding scheme used by Dialogic SCbus linecards using
Dialogic System Software DNA version 2:
1. If you have not already done so, log on to Windows NT Server with an account with
Administrator privileges on the OneBox platform.
2. From the Start menu, point to Programs, and then select
Dialogic System Software
.
3. Click
Dialogic Configuration Manager – DCM
.
4. From the Service menu, click
Stop Service
.
5. When the dialog box displays “Success: Dialogic services stopped,” click
OK
.
6. Select the linecard in the Configured Devices list.
7. From the Action menu, click
Configure Device
.
8. Click
the
Telephony Bus
tab.
9. Select
PCMEncoding
in the Parameter list.
10. Select the PCM encoding scheme used by your
telephone switch.
If the telephone switch uses…
Then…
µ-Law Select
ULAW
in the Value list, then click
OK
.
A-Law
Select
ALAW
in the Value list, then click
OK
.
11. Repeat steps 6–10 for each linecard installed in the platform.
12. After you have configured each linecard, click
OK
.
13. Perform the steps in the earlier “Setting the Dialogic Service Startup Mode–SR5.01”
section to start the Dialogic services.
