Tail Hook
Check the operation of your tail hook with the hand
pump. Trim parts as necessary for smooth operation.
If the unit must be disassembled, remove the “C” clip
that secures the piston pin and remove the pin.
Slide the unit forward until the tail hook block is ac-
cessible and unscrew it from the piston rod.
The cylinder may now be removed from the opposite
end.
To reassemble, reverse the removal procedure.
With the cylinder retaining pin removed, access the tail hook block
The tail hook assembly slides in from the aft of the air-
craft. You will need to notch the aft two formers to
clear the cylinder retaining pin.
The tail hook assembly should have two small retain-
ing holes drilled in the end of the aluminum assembly.
If not, drill them now.
The tail hook assembly aligns with the aft of the air-
craft. In this position, the cylinder retaining pin should
be snug against the aft engine compartment former.
Align tail hook with aft of fuselage
Cut two small retaining brackets from scrap ply, and
mark for position of the retaining holes in the tail hook
assembly.
Position ply pieces on either side of the aluminum as-
sembly and secure with medium CA or V-poxy.
Secure the assembly with small screws, or as shown
here, safety wire for easier removal.
