Strut Doors
Note: if you are retrofitting the strut collars to an earlier
kit with the strut bracket/spring assembly installed, begin
by cutting off the strut door bracket as close as possible
to the strut door with a cut-off wheel.
Remove the set screw from the aluminum strut collar
completely. Drill through one of the existing holes in
the side of the bracket with a #50 drill bit.
Tap the hole with a 2-56 tap and install a Dubro ball
link. Use a little thin CA to secure the ball link.
Repeat for second bracket. The side drilled is unim-
portant, as the brackets can be flipped to the appro-
priate orientation.
Drill and tap the aluminum bracket as shown. Install 2-56 ball link. Paint
aluminum bracket white to match the strut if desired.
Install the strut collar 40 mm from the top of the strut,
with the flat part of the collar oriented to the inside of
the plane and the ball link facing forward. The flat
side of the collar should be parallel to the wheel.
Now would be a good time to paint the struts and col-
lar. The scale gear were painted white.
Notch the wheel well as shown in the photo to clear
the ball link when the gear retracts. Make sure to al-
low plenty of clearance.
Cut a scrap of hard wood approximately 10 x 7 x 15
mm, drill and tap for ball link.
Coat hole with thin CA and install ball link as shown.
Paint white. Set aside to dry.
This part will be referred to as the strut block in the
next few instructions.
Position top of aluminum bracket 40 mm from the top of the strut.
