Dell Inspiron 7000 Reference and Troubleshooting Guide
The
Standby Time-Out
option lets you determine how long the computer remains
idle (no I/O activity) before activating standby mode to conserve battery power. Set-
tings for this option are

To increase battery operating time, set this option to a lower number of minutes.
Press any key on the built-in keyboard to resume normal computer operation.
If the time delay you set for standby mode is greater than the delay set for suspend
mode, the computer enters standby mode first. For instance, if
Standby Time-Out
is
set for 8 minutes and
Suspend Time-Out
is set for 5 minutes, the computer enters
standby mode after 8 minutes of no I/O activity and then enters save-to-disk suspend
mode 5 minutes later.
NOTE: Set this option to
Disabled
if it causes compatibility problems with your
software.

If you are not in the Setup program, you can activate save-to-RAM suspend mode at
any time by pressing <Fn><Esc>. Alternatively, click the
Start
button, and then click
Suspend
. Press the power button to resume normal computer operation.
You can activate save-to-disk suspend mode by pressing <Fn><a> (or <Fn><q> on
the French keyboard). Press the power button and hold it down for a second or two to
turn on the computer and resume normal operation.
