1. GASKETS
1.1 PAPER AND KLINGERIT GASKETS (rubber-aramide fibre)
The workshop manual specifies when a gasket
is required and it also gives information about
the type of gasket to be used.
1. Remove the old gasket before fitting a new
one.
2. Clean the contact surfaces and check them
for damage.
3. Paper gaskets should be sparingly greased
before they are fitted. These gaskets are
used to seal flat parts and are resistant to
oil and moderate heat.
4. Do not grease Klingerit gaskets before
fitting. These gaskets usually have a
graphite coating. They are used to seal flat
surfaces and are resistant to oil, water and
heat.
5. There are special instructions for cylinder
head gaskets. See the relevant section.
6. Always tighten the attachment bolts evenly.
