Installing the seal
1.
Check the recess in which the seal is to be
fitted for damage. Make good any damage.
2.
Look for any marks on the outside of the
seal indicating the direction of rotation of
the shaft.
3.
Always use a suitable driving tool to fit a
seal and press the seal evenly into place in
the recess.
4.
Once a unitised seal has been removed
from the recess, it must not be re-used.
5.
In most cases, a liquid gasket is used to fit
a conventional sealing ring with a steel
sheathing, whereas oil or liquid soap is
used to fit a sealing ring with a rubber
sheathing.
6.
Always fit unitised sealing rings dry, unless
stated otherwise.
7.
Always apply a small amount of oil or
grease to the sealing lip(s) and running
surface of a conventional seal.
