Activate/deactivate links at pre-programmed times.
•
Reboot the router at a time in the middle of the night (to load a new
router configuration or firmware version, for example).
For example, imagine you have updated a new firmware version in Flash but
you want the router to reboot and load the new firmware only during the night,
when there is no traffic on the network.
You could set the following event. Event Date and Time set to today’s date at
23:30 (11:30PM in 24-hour format). Event Period set to zero (meaning one-
shot event). Shortcut String set to “6\r1\r1\rY\r” (from the main menu, this
sequence is equivalent to Admin->Reboot->Reboot and answer Y to “Confirm
reboot
6.6 Syslog
The PR2000 has the capability to log events so that the system administrator
can be notified about what happens in the router. The events can be logged
either at the console or at a server in the network using the syslog facility
available in a number of Operating Systems.
You can select the level of detail of the event logging from 0 to 7, and whether
to add a prefix or time stamp to the messages. Events can be logged to the
console or to a syslog host in the network.
The event log capability is configured in the menu Config->System->Syslog.
Warning level 0 logs less information. Warning level 7 logs more information. A
higher warning level includes all the events from the lower warning levels.
6.7 Setting the Hardware Startup Options
The menu Config->System->HW allows you to configure some hardware
startup options.
The PR2000 has a watchdog timer that resets the hardware and automatically
reboots the router if, for any reason (an unexpected software error, a power
glitch, a hardware failure, etc) the router software stops operating properly. By
default the watchdog timer is enabled.
This menu also allows you to enable or disable some of the hardware tests
performed during the router startup (such as memory tests or code validation).
