to Run configuration will make the change effective but will not update the
flash. In this last case, the change is lost after a router reboot.
At any time, it is possible to save the current "run configuration" (stored in
memory) to flash memory. This is done by selecting Admin->Write
Configuration->To Flash.
You may also want to save the configuration vector to a server in the network.
This can be done by selecting Admin->Write Configuration->To FTP Server
or Admin->Write Configuration->To TFTP Server. These will use the FTP or
TFTP protocols to save the configuration vector to a server in the network.
TFTP transfers save the configuration in binary form (which may not be
compatible across different releases of the firmware and is not in readable
format). FTP transfers use a parser/de-parser to convert the configuration
stored in the server in text form (which are portable among different versions of
firmware and can be edited with a text editor).
Conversely, the run configuration can be loaded or restored from the menu
Config->Load Configuration. The run configuration in memory can be reset to
factory defaults or restored from Flash or from a server in the network.
Some applications of the save and restore configuration functions:
•
Backup purposes. A configuration can be saved and later restored
to the same router.
•
Replication of routers with similar configuration. The same
configuration file can be downloaded to several routers.
6.4 Enabling Optional Software or Hardware
Some of the PR2000 software modules or feature packages may be offered by
Cyclades as options for the PR2000 and are purchased separately. These
options are enabled by entering appropriate passwords or license keys in the
Admin->Optionals.
•
IPX feature package. Enables IPX routing.
6.5 Event Programming
Event Programming is a powerful tool for router management. It lets you set
events to be executed at a future time. An event can be any command
executable through the menu interface.
