Getting the WAN Interfaces to work
PR2000 Installation Guide

4.4.5 Note about payload data compression
There is no established standard for data compression interoperability among
routers. The PR2000 implementation of payload data compression is based on
the Predictor algorithm and does not necessarily inter-operate with routers from
other vendors.
Payload data compression can be used over PPP, Frame Relay and X.25 links.
For it to work, it is necessary that the two routers on each end of the link or
virtual circuit be properly configured.
4.5 Configuring the network protocol for WAN interfaces
After configuring the interface-specific and encapsulation parameters, select
"Network Protocol". This menu allows you to configure the Network Protocol
for that interface.
4.5.1 IP Protocol
For IP, the required parameters are:
•
Active/Inactive. You can enable or disable the IP protocol on the
interface.
•
Numbered or Unnumbered Interface. A numbered interface is an
interface that has an IP address associated to it. Unnumbered
Interfaces do not have an IP address of their own and the network
address for the interface is taken from another interface (usually the
LAN).
•
Primary IP Address. Ask your ISP or network administrator for the
correct value. Enter the IP address to be assigned to the WAN
interface using the format NN.NN.NN.NN.
•
Secondary IP Addresses. The PR2000 supports more than one
(up to 8) IP addresses per interface. Secondary IP addresses are
needed when more than one network is sharing the same physical
media.
•
Subnet Mask. This is another required parameter. Check the
correct parameter with your ISP or network administrator. For a
Class C network, for example, the subnet mask will normally be
255.255.255.0.
•
NAT - Address Scope. Can be "Local", "Global" (default) or
"Global Assigned". In the more common case where Network
Address Translation (NAT) is not being used, configure the WAN
