Managing the PR2000
PR2000 Installation Guide
41
A super user session has a 10-minute inactivity timeout. If a session remains
inactive for this time, it is automatically terminated.
In addition to super and user, the PR2000 supports two additional types of
user: auto and pppauto. Both types are used for the Terminal Server (see the
chapter Configuring the PR2000 as a Terminal Server).
An auto user is automatically connected to a pre-configured host upon login.
So, if the PR2000 is a terminal server and you want a user to have access to
only one host in the network, configure it as auto.
A pppauto user is a user that will always start a PPP session after login (no
menu will be displayed).
6.2 Updating the Firmware version in flash memory
The PR2000 holds up to three sections of code in Flash Memory: the Original
Boot Code, the Alternate Boot Code and the Operating Code. The two boot
codes are responsible for initializing the hardware and loading the operating
code, which is the actual CyROS router software.
After powering on, the PR2000 searches the Flash, looking for the Alternate
Boot Code. If there is a valid alternate boot code, it is executed. Otherwise, the
Original Boot Code is executed. If Cyclades updates the boot code, a new
alternate boot code can be saved to the PR2000. The original boot code is
installed at the factory and never changed in the field (this way, the PR2000 will
be operational even if a corrupted alternate boot code is ever saved to flash).
The boot code initializes the hardware and then looks at the configuration vector
(also stored in flash). Depending on the configuration, the operating code is
loaded either from the flash memory or from a boot server in the network using
the bootp or tftp protocols (network boot). If a network boot fails, the PR2000
automatically boots from flash.
To select between boot from flash and boot from the network, go to Config-
>System->Firmware Boot. For network boot, you will be asked to select the
boot protocol and enter the boot file name (including complete directory path),
and the boot server IP address. Normally, for boot speed and server
independence, the PR2000 will be set to boot from flash memory (default).
