8.0 Why Nexus?
8.2 Integrated Flex Wrist
Every Nexus Hand comes with an integrated flex wrist which has been a market favourite. By being spring-loaded
it makes the wrist faster and more instinctive for the user to use as they do not have to think about moving it, the
wrist will move with them. This combined with the passively flexing fingers creates a more natural embodiment
of the Nexus Hand as it is not rigid but rather provides organic movements. Another great benefit is that when
using the wrist in flex state, if the user were to fall, trip or accidentally knock into something, it is less likely
there will be catastrophic damage to the hand as it flexes out of the way. It is also the lowest profile flex wrist
on the market with the mechanism incorporated into the hand chassis adding no additional build height. This
has been great for those users with a long residual limb as it does not affect symmetry with their sound side.
It features a passive spring flex with a single locking button mechanism to lock the wrist into one of three
positions: 30° flexion, 30° extension or neutral. This is very useful for users as it reduces shoulder compensation
when performing certain tasks such as eating, driving, or using a computer. The flexion position is ideal for
when eating, the extension position is ideal for when using a computer while the neutral position provides a
stable platform for heavy lifting.
