8.1 Passively Flexing Fingers and Thumb
From our previous design, we saw how popular the passively flexing fingers were for a prosthetic hand as they
played an important role in protecting the expensive actuators. So, we decided to take this one step further and
applied it to the thumb. We designed all the digits to be durable by manufacturing them from a combination of
stainless steel and aluminium and the spring-loaded feature provides great impact protection as they all fold
out of the way reducing the likelihood of damage and repairs.
