In the event of a defect in the electrical tubular heating element, the M8 thread
bolt of the impressed-current anode and the connecting cable between anode
and potentiostat may carry mains voltage. If these parts are touched, the risk

cal tubular heating element must therefore be disconnected from the power
supply before undertaking any work on the impressed-current anode system.

The CORREX
®
UP system is composed of an interrupter potentiostat and one
or more titanium anodes connected with one another by means of a connec-
ting cable. The impressed current is supplied by the interrupter potentiostat
and the protective current is fed into the tank via a wear-free titanium anode.
The electrochemical reactions taking place at the titanium anode (positive
pole) and at the spots and crevices in the enamel of the storage tank in con-
tact with the water acting as the cathode (negative pole) result in a transport
of charges (electrons) towards the defective spots. The electrochemical surfa-
ce potential in the area of the spots and crevices in contact with the water is
thus lowered to such an extent that the corrosion speed in the steel wall of
the tank becomes virtually zero. Depending on water quality, calcareous
deposits may build up in addition on the defective spots.
The system works as a so-called interrupter potentiostat, i.e. the protective
current flow through the titanium anode is interrupted periodically in short
intervals. During these interruptions, the potential existing between the tita-
nium anode and the inner wall of the hot-water tank is measured and trans-
