Before Using the Product
This chapter provides information you should know before using the product.
About the PC Card
The AD12-8(PM) is a PCMCIA 2.0/JEIDA 4.1 PC card for performing analog I/O. The card includes
a function to convert analog input signals to digital (AD conversion) and a function to convert digital
signals to analog (DA conversion).
You can use the card in PC card slots that support the PCMCIA 2.0/JEIDA 4.1 or later specifications
(including PC Card Standard).
Number of input channels: 8, Conversion speed: 10
μ
sec/ch, Resolution: 12-bit A/D conversion
Number of output channels: 2, Conversion speed: 16
μ
sec/ch, Resolution: 12-bit D/A conversion
You can use the driver library (API-PAC(W32)) supplied with the PC card to write Windows
application programs in any programming language (such as Visual Basic, Visual C/C++, etc.) that
supports the calling of Win32 API functions.
Features
On-board buffer memory (For analog input)
The card has a FIFO format buffer memory sufficient for 16,384 data points. This can be used to
perform sampling in the background without affecting the PC processing performance.
Sampling control function (For analog input)
The sampling clock that determines the sampling speed can be selected from either the internal
sampling clock output from the internal clock generator, or from an external sampling clock input from
an external digital input.
Analog output function
The card has two analog output channels.
Digital I/O function
The card has four TTL level digital inputs and four digital outputs which can be used to monitor and
control external devices.
Safety design to adjust output voltage to 0V when power supply is turned on
To prevent the unstable voltage and the connected device of D/A converter from fault and malfunctions
when the power supply is turned on, the circuit is designed to adjusts output voltage of the analog output
to 0V.
Accessory devices
A range of accessory devices (options) are available to add additional functions.
Using these add-on devices makes it easy to manage signal wiring or add additional functions.
See the "Cable and Connectors" and "Accessories" sections of this chapter for more details about
available accessories.
