You
MUST
save your scanning configuration by $PCMNBC,SAVE<CR><LF>, otherwise the
beacon will return to the previous scanning mode once you power off.
A beacon configuration example
We are giving a step-by-step example to configure the beacon for a particular location here.
In this example, we assume that there are 3 beacon stations close to where your G2B is
installed, and the frequencies of these stations are 215.5 kHz, 305 kHz and 276 kHz.
1. Turn off all NMEA 0183 sentences by
$PCMNOFF<CR><LF>
Note we do not save this configuration so that you can return to your previous settings in
the next power cycle
2. Place the beacon in the command mode
$PCMNBC,COMMAND<CR><LF>
3. Create the 3 channels in the channel map table and save the channel map
$PCMNBC,SEND,MAP C1,215500<CR><LF>
$PCMNBC,SEND,MAP C2,305000<CR><LF>
$PCMNBC,SEND,MAP C3,276000<CR><LF>
$PCMNBC,SEND,MAP SAVE<CR><LF>
Note by always use the lowest channel numbers, you are more likely to replace an
existing channel thus to keep the number of total table items low.
If you have more than a couple of frequencies to enter, you can put all commands to a
text file (including the SAVE command) and send the file to G2B.
4. Set the beacon mode to channel map scanning. If you are already in that mode, the
command will have no effect
$PCMNBC,SCAN,FREQ 2<CR><LF>
5. Save the beacon configuration for the next power cycle
$PCMNBC,SAVE<CR><LF>
6. Exit the beacon command mode
$PCMNBC,DATA<CR><LF>
7. Turn off and turn on the unit to recover the previous sentence settings
Note 1:
if you are at a location where there is no satellite in view, and it takes awhile for you
to finish the configuration, the device may attempt to reset the system, causing the NMEA
0183 sentence outputs. In such situation, you can repeat the step 1 to turn off all sentences
again.
Note 2:
if you have not sent a command to the beacon for over 1 minute after step 2, the
G2B may stop responding to $PCMNBC commands. In such case you can use
$PCMNBC,DATA to exit the beacon command mode and re-start your configuration all again.
