Drive Population Guidelines
The server can operate with one or two drive bay modules. Each drive bay module can hold up to eight
2.5-inch drives for a total of 16 drives.

shows the drive bay modules and the drive bay
numbering.

Observe these drive population guidelines for optimum performance:
•
When populating drives in a drive bay module, add drives in empty slots from left to right.
•
If your server has two drive bay modules, populate all eight bays in module 1 before you populate
the module 2 bays.
•
Keep an empty drive blanking tray in any unused slots to ensure proper airflow.
•
You can mix hard drives and SSDs in the same server. However, you cannot configure a logical
volume (virtual drive) that contains a mix of hard drives and SSDs. When you create a logical
volume, it must contain all hard drives or all SSDs.
