Chapter 12 Installing Battery Backup Units
Disabling and Enabling the BBU in the Router
Step 5
Cup the protruding connector with the cavity in the cable port plug previously removed. Re-insert the
plug, maintaining the connector in the cavity. Use the 1/2” or 13mm socket wrench to tighten the plug
to a torque value of 6-7 ft-lbs (8.13 - 9.49 N-m).
Caution
Do not over-torque the cable port plug. The torque should not exceed 7 ft-lbs (9.49 N-m).
Note
The cable port plug cavity will now hold the single-pin connector captive. This allows the BBU
single-pin connectors to be connected more easily.
Enable the BBU via BBU Cable Connector on the Router Cable Harness
Step 1
Open the chassis door by following the steps in the
“Opening the Router Door” section on page 4-1
of
the
“Opening the Router Chassis”
chapter.
Step 2
Locate the BBU cable connector in the chassis door. Find the socket on the base of BBU 1. With the latch
of the connector facing the chassis door, press the connector into the socket.
Step 3
Tuck the router cable harness into the chassis door to prevent any interference with the closure of the
door.
Step 4
Close the chassis door by following the steps in the
“Closing the Door” section on page 4-4
of the
“Opening the Router Chassis”
chapter.
Enabling the BBU via the CLI
The default setting is the BBU becomes enabled when it is connected to the router BBU cable. If the
BBU is disabled for any reason, you may need to enable it once more.
Different BBU functionality can be enabled via the CLI:
•
Enable the BBU discharge—for example, used to reenable the BBU discharge after storage,
shipping or transport in order to resume battery discharge.
•
Enable the BBU operation—for example, used to enable a replacement battery in an installed and
peritoneal router.
The CLI operations are detailed in the following sections:
•
Enabling the BBU Discharge in a Cisco CG-OS Router, page 12-19
•
Enabling the BBU Discharge in a Cisco IOS Router, page 12-20

transportation.
