NOTE: The Visteon HS-15 A/C compressor has a
replaceable compressor manifold which contains
the fittings for the refrigerant lines and the high
pressure relief valve.
(1) Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant
system (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITION-
ING/PLUMBING - STANDARD PROCEDURE -
REFRIGERANT SYSTEM RECOVERY).
(2) Remove the bolts that secure the A/C suction
line and A/C discharge line to the A/C compressor
manifold.
(3) Disconnect the A/C suction and discharge lines
from the A/C compressor manifold and remove and
discard the O-ring seals.
(4) Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened
refrigerant line fittings and the compressor manifold
ports.
(5) Remove the four bolts that secure the compres-
sor manifold to the A/C compressor (Fig. 5).
(6) Remove the compressor manifold and gasket
from the A/C compressor.
(7) To minimize the chance of compressor damage,
go directly to the Compressor Manifold and Gasket
Installation procedure.
INSTALLATION
A/C COMPRESSOR
NOTE: Be certain to check the refrigerant oil level if
the A/C compressor is being replaced. See Refriger-
ant Oil Level in this group for the procedures. Use
only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the
A/C compressor in the vehicle.
(1) Position the A/C compressor onto the mounting
bracket.
(2) Install the bolts that secure the A/C compressor
to the mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts to 28 N·m
(20 ft. lbs.).
(3) Lower the vehicle.
(4) Remove the tape or plugs from the opened fit-
tings on the A/C suction line and the A/C discharge
line and the compressor ports.
(5) Lubricate the new O-ring seals with clean
refrigerant oil and install them onto the suction and
the discharge line fittings. Use only the specified
seals as they are made of a special material for the
R-134a system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type
recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.
(6) Install the A/C suction and discharge lines onto
the A/C compressor.
(7) Install the bolts that secure the A/C suction
and discharge lines to the A/C compressor. Tighten
the bolts to 22 N·m (16 ft. lbs.).
(8) Connect the wire harness connector to the A/C
compressor clutch coil connector.
(9) Install the serpentine drive belt (Refer to 7 -
COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/BELTS-DRIVE -
INSTALLATION).
(10) Reconnect the negative battery cable.
(11) Evacuate the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 -
HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGERANT SYS-
TEM EVACUATE).
(12) Charge the refrigerant system (Refer to 24 -
HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
STANDARD PROCEDURE - REFRIGERANT SYS-
TEM CHARGE).
COMPRESSOR MANIFOLD AND GASKET
CAUTION: To prevent the entrance of dirt and mois-
ture into the A/C compressor, have all replacement
components readily available to minimize the time
the system must be opened.
(1) Position the compressor manifold and a new
gasket onto the A/C compressor.
(2) Install the bolts that secure the compressor
manifold to the A/C compressor. Tighten the bolts to
22 N·m (16 ft. lbs.).
