Using the BJ Cartridges and Scanner Cartridge
About Cartridge Types
- When you perform a print job, two different types of BJ Cartridges must be installed onto the car-
tridge holder. When the ink of a specific colour runs out, only the empty ink tank needs to be
replaced.
- When you wish to scan an image, the scanner cartridge must be installed for scanning instead of
the BJ Cartridges.

■
Black BJ Cartridge BC-30
This BJ Cartridge contains pigment black ink which
takes longer to dry than general dye ink, but pro-
duces extremely sharp, water-resistant text and
graphics. The Black BJ Cartridge BC-30, used in
combination with the Color BJ Cartridge BC-31, is
ideal for business and technical reports which con-
tain text with colour charts or graphs.
The Black BJ Cartridge BC-30 is composed of two
distinct parts, the print head and one replaceable ink
tank, the Ink Tank BCI-3BK.
When this BJ Cartridge runs out of black ink, only the
ink tank needs to be replaced.
■
Color BJ Cartridge BC-31
This BJ Cartridge contains three colours: Cyan,
Magenta, Yellow (CMY). The Color BJ Cartridge BC-
31 is always installed on the right side of the car-
tridge holder.
When this colour BJ Cartridge is used with the Black
BJ Cartridge BC-30 installed on the left side of the
cartridge holder, the combination is ideal and eco-
nomical for printing text and colour graphs and
charts.
The Color BJ Cartridge BC-31 is composed of four
distinct parts, the print head and three replaceable
ink tanks.
When a colour runs out, only that colour's ink tank
needs to be replaced.
