Subsection 04 (FRAME)
COUPLER
Coupler Inspection
Check tightness of coupler bolts. If bolts are
loose, check coupler and tongue for damages.
Retighten bolts to 42.5 N•m (31 lbf•ft).
Check locking mechanism operation. Clean, lubri-
cate and adjust as required.
Coupler Adjustment
1. Attach coupler to vehicle hitch ball.
2. Verify if there is clearance between ball and
coupler by pulling on tongue.
3. Open coupler and tighten adjustment screw un-
til mechanism becomes difficult to close over
hitch ball.
4. Open coupler and loosen adjustment screw by
1 turn.
5. Lubricate coupler mechanism.
6. Close coupler over hitch ball and ensure coupler
cannot come off the hitch ball.
Coupler Removal
1. Remove and discard 2 retaining bolts and nuts.
2. Pull the bushing out of location.
3. Carefully pull coupler out of location to avoid
damage to the harness.
Coupler Installation
1. Route harness above the bushing and bolts.
2. Secure both bolts with retaining nuts. Tighten
to 42.5 N•m (31 lbf•ft).
FRAME
Frame Care
Touch up all areas where paint has been scratched
or chipped off.
Frame Inspection
Inspect the frame for:
– Cracks
– Bends
– Twisting
– Buckling
– Paint condition
– Any other damages.
Repair or replace as required.
Arc Welding on Frame
Arc Welding Specifications
When arc welding, use the following specifica-
tions:
1. Amperage: 70 - 110 A
2. Voltage: 20 - 24 V
3. Rod: E-7014 (3/32 in).
NOTE:
Install the welder ground as close as pos-
sible to the area to be repaired.
WARNING
Welding should be performed by a profes-
sional welder and limited to areas that are
not safety related.
