Multi-Ring Configuration

Token Ring
To provide lobe connections to the 11 Token Ring stations of the first ring, the
MMAC chassis needs to incorporate Token Ring Media Interface Modules, or
TRMIMs. These TRMIMs will provide ports for teller station lobe connections
between the MMAC backplane and the facility cabling media. Since this first ring
is quite small, and the facility cable runs are well within the IEEE 802.5 standard
maximums for Category 3 UTP, we need not spend additional money on active
circuitry.
We select a passive TRMIM for UTP cabling that supports 11 or more station
ports. We can choose between the TRMIM-22 and TRMIM-24. Since the teller
station ring is not expected to grow in size any time soon, we select the
TRMIM-22, which provides 12 Token Ring station ports through RJ45 connectors.
A quick check of the specifications shows that we are still within the limits, so we
move on to the next part of the configuration process.
We do not need to extend the ring to other facilities or new MMAC chassis at this
time, so we can skip over the selection and configuration of Ring-In/Ring-Out
modules.
