FORMIM22: 10BASE-F Repeating Media Interface Module

CXRMIM: 10BASE2 Repeating Media Interface Module

The FORMIM-22 is a fiber optic Media Interface and Repeating Module for the
Cabletron Systems modular hub. It provides twenty-four fiber optic ports for up
to twelve user connections. The FORMIM-22 communicates with the rest of the
modules in the hub through either Ethernet Channel B or C of the Flexible
Network Bus. Because the FORMIM-22 performs its own repeating functions,
the failure or removal of a management module will not affect the repeating
operations of the module. By moving the repeating functions from the
management module to the FORMIM, a single point of failure has been
eliminated.

The CXRMIM is a Media Interface and Repeating Module for 10BASE2 Ethernet.
The CXRMIM provides 12 ports of internally terminated BNC connectivity for
end users, as well as providing space for one Ethernet Port Interface Module or
EPIM. The EPIM is a user-configurable port that can be changed to provide
connection for a variety of media: thin coaxial cable, single mode or multimode
fiber optics, twisted pair cable or AUI interfaces. In addition to providing for the
EPIMs, the CXRMIM is a multichannel product. It can be configured by the
network manager to operate on the Ethernet Channel B or C of the Cabletron
Systems Multi Media Access Center, or in standalone mode without bridging or
management. Additionally, since the TPRMIM-22 performs its own repeating
functions through an on-board National Semiconductor Repeater Interface
Controller (RIC) chip, it eliminates a single point of failure inherent in
non-repeating boards that rely on the management unit to perform their
repeating functions.
