Expansion - FDDI
Connecting Multiple Rings
In the event that you wish to connect two FDDI rings to one another, a
segmentation device must be placed between the FDDI networks and connected
to each. This device can be an external standalone router or bridge or one of
Cabletron Systems’ hub based router, bridge, or switch modules. When it looks to
be necessary to move from a single overall FDDI ring to a series of bridged or
switched FDDI rings, an examination of more robust, switch-based products may
be in order. If your network is beginning to outgrow the bounds of the FDDI
technology, you may wish to consider the selection of a switching hub such as the
Cabletron Systems MMAC-Plus, which can support segmented connections
between more than 10 FDDI rings.
