some receivers will only update the displayed PSN once or
intermittently while others will be confused and not display any PSN.
Due to these problems later versions of the RDS specification included
Radio Text (RT) which allows for short scrolling messages in non
mobile receivers.
Radio Text is the preferred method of displaying scrolling text
messages and most European countries have banned the use of
Dynamic RDS now that the Radio Text features have been
implemented in most RDS receiver chip sets.
3.4.2 Reading PSN Pages from the BW RDS2
Two options are available to view the PSN information currently stored in the BW
RDS2:
1. READ
The READ button at the bottom of each PSN page will read each line
of the current PSN page from the RDS unit, as well as the value for the
line timer, and update the page values in the PSN configuration screen.
2. ‘Read All’ From the main menu select ‘Communications > Read All’ to have all
pages read from the RDS2 unit. This will update all PSN pages with
relevant PSN and line timer information.
3.4.3 Programming PSN Pages
Clearing PSN Information
Before or during the process of configuring a PSN page the CLEAR button can be
pressed at any stage to clear all entries on the screen and revert the line timer to the
default 1 second. This clears entries on the screen only and does not have any effect
on the page information stored in the RDS2 unit until the SEND button is pressed.
To clear any PSN page information stored in the RDS, select the required PSN page
and press the CLEAR button. All information will be cleared on the screen. Simply
press the SEND button to program the RDS unit with a blank page.
Entering PSN Information
The BW RDS2 allows three methods of entering PSN information:
1.
Direct Entry
2.
Insert Text button
3.
Scrolling Text button
Direct Entry
After selecting a PSN page the easiest way to enter information is to select a line using
your mouse where you would like the information entered. The line will take the form
of a text box to indicate it is being edited. Simply enter the required text.
