3.6 ‘Radiotext’ Configuration Screen
3.6.1 What is RadioText?
RadioText is a simple RDS feature that allows lines of up to 64 characters at a time to
be broadcast to be displayed on any RDS enabled receiver with RT capabilities.
Receivers that have limited screen space will scroll the RT information
RadioText is a much more versatile and much safer way of transmitting text than
Dynamic PSN and is commonly used to broadcast artist and track information as well
as station phone numbers and contest information.
The RDS2 is capable of storing 50 lines of Radiotext information. Each line can have
up to 64 characters and can be programmed to be broadcast for up to 99 seconds at a
time.
3.6.2 Setting up Radiotext
The Radiotext configuration screen has 50 lines split into three columns:
1.
Number
Line
number
2.
Time
Time (secs) that the text should be displayed
3.
Text
Text to be displayed as RT
Setting up Radiotext in the RDS2 is as simple as filling in the time and text information for
each line required:
Entering Text
Text can be entered or edited on any line simply by clicking on the line. The line will
fill with a text box and a cursor will appear to indicate the line is being edited. Once
the required information has been added, press the ENTER key or select a different
line to store the information on the line. The line will change to a grey colour to
indicate it contains valid text.
Entering Broadcast Time
Once text has been filled for each line, a time between 1 and 99 secs must be set if the
line is to be broadcast. If a line of Radiotext needs to be ‘disabled’ this can be done by
setting the time to 00secs.
Radiotext will be lines will be broadcast for a period set by their programmed time.
The next line of text with a non-zero time entered will then be broadcast. All lines
with non-zero times will follow. Once all non-zero lines have been transmitter the
sequence will begin again from the first non-zero line.
Example:
Figure 3.D shows two lines of valid text and one disabled line.
Line 1 would be broadcast for 30secs
Line 2 would be broadcast for 10secs
Line 1 would be broadcast for 30secs…
