Step 4:
Select the recorder’s IP address
The IP address of the box is generally that of the default gateway.
The following table gives the default IP addresses of the most commonly used boxes.
The IP addresses of the computer, the recorder and the box must all be in the same subnetwork.
Example 1:
The IP address of the computer is 192.168.1.179
The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
The IP address of the box (generally the same as the IP address of the default gateway) is 192.168.1.1
In this case, it is not necessary to change the IP address of the recorder, which is 192.168.1.108 by default
Example 2:
The IP address of the computer is 192.168.0.179
The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
The default gateway is 192.168.0.254
In this case, the IP address of the recorder must be changed, otherwise it will not be able to communicate on the network.
The IP address to be given to the recorder:
- Must be between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.254.
- Must not be used by any other device on the network (in this example, do not use 192.168.0.179 and 192.168.0.254 which are
the IP addresses of the computer and the box respectively). For this it may be useful to list the addresses already taken on the
network (see the Quick VMS tool on the mini CD-ROM)
In this example, the IP address for the recorder can therefore be 192.168.0.108.
