Installation and Operation of the
CHC plus Humidity Chamber
7.1
Introduction
The CHC plus Cryo and Humidity Chamber in its standard setup allows humidification of
samples between 5% and 95% relative humidity in the temperature range from 10 °C to
60 °C (up to 70% relative humidity between 60 °C and 80 °C) and dry heating between
‑5 °C and 300 °C in air (up to 400 °C in vacuum). With liquid Nitrogen (LN2) cooling (op-
tional) the low temperature range can be extended to ‑180 °C under vacuum.
When regulating the humidity, the chamber is completely filled with humid gas. To avoid
condensation, the chamber housing is heated to a few degrees higher than the sample.
Although most aspects of operation are the same as for the chambers described in chap-
ter 5, this chamber requires additional controllers and has more operation modes, which
will be explained in this chapter.
Two controllers, (a TCU110C or CCU100 temperature controller and an MHG humidity
controller) and a water bath (Julabo HE-4 or Corio) need to be operated by
DIFFRAC.MEASUREMENT CENTER. They are connected via RS232 or USB (Corio) ca-
bles to the universal IO-board or CPU-board (Corio) of the diffractometer. For applications
above 60 °C with controlled humidity a relay box and a valve are required (HE-4 only).
The relay box switches off the external water cooling for the Julabo HE-4 water circuit by a
valve which allows to heat the water up to 95 °C and to save cooling water. Corio is
equipped with an internal cooling and does not need an external cooling.
