Fuel System
Components
7
Components
The fuel system includes the following compo-
nents:
•
Mechanical Fuel Lift Pump
(AGA & newer models only)
•
Fuel Pump & Vapor Separator Assembly
•
Water Separating Fuel Filter
•
Fuel Supply Rails
•
Fuel Injectors
•
Fuel Return Rails
•
Fuel Vapor Vent Solenoid
Mechanical Fuel Lift Pump
(AGA & Newer)
The fuel lift pump is a mechanical, pressure-pulse
pump. The diaphragm of the pump is driven by
two pulse hoses connected to the cylinder/crank-
case assembly. Pulse hose locations are cylinders
1 and 4.
Vacuum from the fuel lift pump pulls fuel from the
boat fuel tank through an inline 250 micron filter.
Once fuel reaches the pump, internal pump pres-
sure supplies fuel to the vapor separator.
Fuel Pump & Vapor Separator
Assembly
The fuel pump and vapor separator assembly
houses the following fuel system components in
one package:
•
Electric fuel lift pump
•
roller vane pump
•
(runs with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)
•
functions as the fuel lift pump on ABA and AFA
outboard models
•
functions to raise fuel pressure on AGA and
newer outboard models
•
Vapor separator assembly
•
water-cooled fuel reservoir to accumulate
incoming fuel from the fuel lift pump and from
the fuel return rail
•
micro switches control venting of fuel vapors
•
Low pressure regulator
•
High pressure regulator
•
Electric fuel circulation pump
•
composite turbine impeller pump
•
runs 100% duty cycle
•
Filter (fuel return rail fitting)
Electric Fuel Lift Pump
The electric fuel lift pump utilizes a roller vane for
reliability.
Fuel Supply
(ABA, AFA Models)
The pump is mounted inside the vapor separator
and draws fuel from the boat fuel tank through an
inline 250 micron filter.
Fuel Supply
(AGA & Newer Models)
The pump is mounted inside the vapor separator.
Fuel from the boat fuel tank is supplied through
the mechanical fuel lift pump.
All Models
Fuel is pressurized to 7 to 15 psi (48 to 103 kPa)
and flows through a hose to a 10 micron water
separating fuel filter and into the fuel reservoir.
Electrical Circuit
The electric fuel lift pump is controlled by the
EMM
and operates on the 12 V circuit. The pump acti-
vates for 10 seconds when the
EMM
powers up
(assumes the fuel system is primed, see
1.
