Oiling System
Oiling System Tests
200
Use the
Cylinder Pump
function of
Evinrude Diag-
nostic
software Tests screen to activate the oil
pump.
•
Voltage at pin B should vary (drop), as the oil
pump cycles.
Check the control signal while the
Oil Injector
test
is running. Set the digital multimeter to the Hertz
(Hz) scale.
•
Meter should read 150 to 170 Hz.
Results:
•
If voltage and control signal readings (Hz) at
pin B are within range, the
EMM
and wiring are
not at fault.
•
If voltage at pin B is not within range, check volt-
age at pin A (white/red wire) of the oil pump
electrical connector.
Connect positive meter lead to pin A (white/red
wire) of oil pump electrical connector. Observe
voltage at pin A.
•
The voltage at pin A should be approximately
30 V.
Start the engine. Observe voltage at pin A.
•
The voltage at pin A should be approximately
55 V.
Results:
•
If voltage at pin A is within range, refer to
•
No voltage reading should result in Code 36;
Cylinder Oil Pump Open Circuit. Refer to
Oil Pump Circuit Tests
The oil pump circuit test can be performed on
either the crankcase or cylinder oil pump.
IMPORTANT:
The complete oil pump electrical
circuit includes
EMM
alternator output, the engine
wire harness, the pump winding and connectors,
and the oil injector control circuit of the
EMM
.
Check continuity of all wiring and connections.
Disconnect the battery cables at the battery. Dis-
connect the electrical connector from the oil
pump.
Use a digital multimeter with appropriate test
probe leads to measure the resistance of the oil
pump 55V circuit.
Connect the positive meter lead to the engine har-
ness connector wire listed in the table. Connect

NOTICE
Use appropriate test leads or adapters such
as Test Probe Kit, P/N 342677, when perform-
ing electrical tests.
NEVER pierce the insulation of the engine
wiring, or use any piercing-style test probe.
Piercing insulation damages the wire and can
cause other unintended electrical problems.
