reinforcements will be set at approx. 40mm (1.57 in.) from the excavation bottom (or placed in 40mm [1.57
in.]-thick previously-cast blinding concrete).
The tops of the frames of this reinforcement will therefore extend about 150mm (5.91 in.) above the
foundation surface so as to be embedded in the concrete slab of the milking parlour which will be laid later.
6. Concreting the circular footing using standardized concrete with specified properties (BPS) according to NF
EN 206-1 C20/25 XC1 Dmax 20 S2 CL 0.40 to a height of 200mm. The concrete shall be made roughly level
with the -1250mm finished level of the apron.
7. Digging the foundations and building the walls of the milking parlour (not included in this description)
as well as the supporting wall between the holding pen and the milking parlour. The upper surface of the
foundations and all these walls must be -1250mm from the finished level of the apron.
Perpendicular to the cows’ entry/exit point to/from the rotating apron, the supporting wall between the
milking parlour and the holding pen shall be levelled to -150mm at the finished level of the apron, leaving
the pre-installed steel rods to protrude from the top of the wall so as to be later incorporated into the
platform floor slab (8mm diam fe E 500 HBS steel deformed bars 400mm long spaced 200mm apart). BPS NF
EN 206-1 C20/25 XC1 Dmax 20 S2 CL 0.40 concrete must be used for the foundations of these walls and BPS
NF EN 206-1 C25/30 Dmax 14 XF1 S3 CL 0.40 for the walls.
The reinforcements of these structures must be connected to the single earthing cable.
8. Digging a 250mm wide, 100mm deep circular trench whose axis describes a circle with a radius of R=X/2-
1700mm. This trench can be made using either prefabricated concrete elements or 1000mm long straight
polyester elements, or using shuttering in situ. In all cases the top of this trench will be at a maximum of
-1085mm for a 1m 05 high platform and a minimum of -985mm for a 0m 95 high platform.
The bottom of this trench can have four low points facing the four previously made wastewater drainage
outlets. In the case of a shuttered trench, the concrete at the bottom of the trench shall first be cast approx.
400mm wide, sloping towards the four drainage outlets.
This trench bottom shall be at least 80mm thick, made using BPS NF EN 206-1 C35/45 XA2 Dmax 14 S2 CL
0.65 concrete and reinforced with an ST 10 anti-crack mesh. The shuttering for the sides of the trench shall
then be placed on this concrete blinding.
9. Laying a 0/31.5 drainage pad under the floor slab of the entire milking parlour. This drainage pad shall be at
least 80mm thick and allow slopes to be made in the concrete slab of the milking parlour.
The pad will therefore be given a 5% slope from the middle of the milking pit to the circular trench and a 2%
slope from the foot of the surrounding walls of the milking parlour to the trench.
Care must be taken to ensure that the concrete slab is at least 120mm thick in the line-running area and
200mm above the circular footing supporting the metalwork of the apron. This pad must be thoroughly
compacted so as to obtain a Modulus of Subgrade Reaction of the bottom of the blinding of over 30
Mpa/m.
10. If necessary, laying a 150-micron thick polyane sheet over the pad and a 30mm standard welded mesh, type
TS HA ST10, over the slopes.
