INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE OF THE EARTH AUGERS
3.4 HONDA engine oil for model T-170HO
Follow the instructions provided in the HONDA GCV 170 engine operation and maintenance
manual for the type and quantity of oil to use and subsequent top-up operations.
Important: after filling the engine with oil, never tilt the machine by more than 20°; the
machine can be laid on the ground only on the side indicated by the sticker on the engine.
Failure to ignore the rules above raises the risk of irreparable damage to the engine’s air filter.
Replace it, if it gets soaked with oil.
4.0 STARTING
4.1 Overview
Make sure that all the parts of the earth auger have been correctly assembled and that all safety devices operate perfectly
before starting the machine.
4.2 Fuel for 2-stroke engines
Use a mixture of petrol and oil for the 2-stroke engines. We recommend using synthetic oil specifically formulated for 2-
stroke engines subjected to heavy-duty use and mixing as prescribed (usually 2%) on the oil’s container. Whenever
mineral or semi-synthetic oil is used, adopt a 5% percentage of oil.
Synthetic oil reduces the formation of ash and scales in the spark plug, the piston, the cylinder and the muffler as well as
the exhaust fumes leaving the latter while also optimizing the lubrication of the engine for longer working life. It is
important to use high-quality petrol and oil and to use the mixture prepared within three/four weeks of mixing.
Mix the petrol with the oil before adding it to the tank, and perform this operation in an open area with good
ventilation, far from sparks and flames and sources of non-electric light, without smoking, and with the engine off.
Proceed to filling the tank by slowly unscrewing the cap and pour in the mixture, being careful to avoid spilling and
immediately wiping up any spills that may occur from around the engine. Be careful not to spill any mixture on your
clothing.
Start the engine at least three meters away from the place where the fuel tank was filled in order to avoid risk of fire.
Never fill the fuel tank when the machine is hot.
4.3 Fuel for 4-stroke engines
Use only petrol (and not an oil/petrol mixture!) for the 4-stroke engines used in models NEA HO35 and T170HO (GX35
and GCV170 engines).
In any case, follow the instructions provided in the HONDA engine operation and maintenance manual for all
specifications regarding fuel for the engine and its satisfactory operation.
