Media Widgets
10. Media Widgets
The iCompel Data Engine includes a number of ready to use Media Widgets , used to display the results of common
iCompel Data Engine Connection queries.
Note: If the Media Widgets are used to display results, they must be installed on each iCOMPEL on which results
are to be displayed. Please refer to the section
Installing Sample Layouts and Widgets for more information.
The Media Widgets have been specifically designed and developed for use in digital signage applications.
All Media Widgets present a read-only view of the data - the source data cannot be changed from either the player or
the iCompel Data Engine product.
The Media Widgets automatically scale to the size of the Zone they are placed in, and will automatically and fluidly
update when the source data changes.
The included Media Widgets have been designed to act as a starting point only. Many options, including colors, and
labels are easily configurable using simple text based files. The full range of configuration options can be found in
the
Widget Settings section.
10.1 Installing Sample Layouts and Widgets
All Media Widgets can be installed directly on the player using the iCOMPEL Layout Package feature. Layout
Packages are self contained compressed files, which include all media and configuration files required to reconstitute
one or more Layouts on other iCOMPEL.
The Media Widget Layout Packages (special files ending ZIP) can be found in:
My Documents\Black Box iDE Media\media\widgets
folder on the machine the iCompel Data Engine is installed on.
Alternatively, Media Widgets can be found in the '
My Documents\Black Box iDE Media\media\widgets\source
'
folder.
Install the Sample Layouts on a iCOMPEL
This process describes how to install the sample Layouts on an iCOMPEL. This should be performed on the PC on
which the iCompel Data Engine is installed.
1. Start a web browser. Browse to your iCOMPEL and supply user credentials as required.
2. Navigate to the Layout Packages web page.
This can be found on the Layouts menu on recent versions of iCOMPEL.
3. Click the Browse button, and navigate to your
My Documents\Black Box iDE Media\media\widgets
folder.
Select the first file and click the Open button.
4. Click the Install button, and please wait a few moments while the Layout Package installs. Repeat this for each
file uploaded above.
