iCompel Data Engine - User Guide (V3.1.2)
6.3 Connecting to a Black Box iDigitalManager
This page describes how to use a iCompel Data Engine (iDE) to access and display data from a Black Box
iDigitalManager (iDM) version 2.1 or above.
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites must be satisfied before proceeding:
Create a user on the iDM with the user permission "External Database Reports"
TCP/IP connectivity to the iDM from the Windows system running the iCompel Data Engine
Installing the PostgreSQL ODBC Database Driver
You will need an PostgreSQL ODBC driver to connect to the iDM database.
For 32bit versions of Windows
®
:
1. Download the PostgreSQL ODBC driver (
psqlodbc_08_03_0400.zip
) from:
http://wwwmaster.postgresql.org/download/mirrors-ftp/
odbc/versions/msi/psqlodbc_08_03_0400.zip
2. Open the ZIP file and execute the file
psqlodbc.msi
. This will install the driver.
For 64bit versions of Windows
®
:
1. Download the PostgreSQL ODBC driver (
setup_psqlODBC_x64_8.3.4.0.exe
) from:
http://code.google.com/p/visionmap/downloads/list
2. Double click the file to execute and follow on-screen instructions to install.
The above installation should complete without errors.
Create an ODBC System DSN
Set up an ODBC System Data Source Name (DSN) referencing your iDM.
1. Launch the correct version of the Microsoft
®
Windows
®
ODBC Administrator application.
2. Select "System DSN" tab. Click the "Add" button. Select "
PostgreSQL Unicode
" (or "
PostgreSQL 64-bit
ODBC Driver
") driver.
2. Fill in the fields as follows ( bold underlined fields should be entered or selected exactly as written below):
