Configuring the PCs
IP addresses
Af ter you con nect a PC IP ad dres ses must be as sig ned. When doing this you must en su re that the IP ad dres ses as sig -
ned to the PCs and the PABX sys tems are in the sa me IP net work. This al so ap plies if you wish to uti li ze com mon re -
sour ces among se ve ral PCs in a LAN (for ex am ple re lea sed di rec to ries, net work dri ves, net work prin ters). All PCs lo -
ca ted wit hin the network require an IP-address.
In its in iti al sta tus the PABX is con fi gu red with the IP ad dress 192. 168. 1. 250 and the DHCP ser ver in te gra ted in to
the PABX is ac ti vat ed, mea ning that any PCs that are con nec ted must be set to re cei ve their IP ad dress au to ma ti cal ly.
This mo de is re com men ded to dis pen se with the com pli ca ted, ma nu al con fi gu ra ti on of the IP ad dres ses for the pcs
that would otherwise be required.
Note
If you are al rea dy using a net work and whish to use the PABX as the DHCP ser ver you may have to trans fer ot her pa -
ra me ters via DHCP to the pcs.
Note
Only chan ge the se pa ra me ters if your exi sting net work ex pli cit ly de mands this. Ar bi tra ri ly chan ged pa ra me ters
may re sult in a com ple te loss of all net work functions.
You can configure the following parameters:
Default TTL
If you can not re ach cer tain si tes in the In ter net (a »ping« is ans we red with the mes sa ge »des ti na ti on un rea cha ble«) it
may be mea ning ful to in crea se the »TTL« pa ra me ter (de fault is 64) and spe ci fy that all PCs con fi gu red via DHCP to be
re-as sig ned con fi gu ra ti on from the DHCP ser ver (or simply restart your pcs).
MTU
The »MTU« pa ra me ter is used for de fi ning the da ta pa cket si ze used in the LAN. On ly pa ckets with a ma xi mum »pay -
lo ad« of 1452 by tes can be trans por ted via a DSL In ter net por tal (when the PPPoE pro to col is used, for ex am ple with
T-On li ne. Pa ckets in the PABX sys tem should not be first split up and re ply pa ckets not re-as sem bled. It is the re fo re
ex pe dient to use an »MTU« of 1452 by tes to achie ve the grea test pos si ble da ta throughput ra te for the DSL con nec ti -
on. This may, ho we ver, re sult in the da ta transfer rate in the LAN being reduced slightly.
DHCP lease time
The lea se time is the time (in se conds) for which a LAN client re cei ves an as sig ned IP ad dress be fo re that ad dress is
fet ched and re tur ned to the DHCP ser ver ad dress pool. A LAN client can ex tend the lea se time automatically.
Default gateway
You should en ter 0.0.0.0 (pla ce hol der for the PABX sys tem IP ad dress) as the »de fault gate way« if In ter net ac cess it
to be pro vi ded via the PABX system.
Domain Suffixes
You should on ly con fi gu re the pa ra me ters »Do main Na mes« and »DNS ser ver« when you are ope ra ting a DNS ser ver
wit hin the LAN.
