3. Select “Find a driver suitable for the peripheral”.
4. Select “Specify a path” and press “Browse” to set (as a path) the “SmartKey” folder present on the CD.
5. Press “Next” and “Finish” to complete the installation.
Driver for Compass SC-USB
To connect Securbase Light/Plus with a Compass SC-USB, use a USB serial port with its related cable (following figure)
Correct operation not only requires the presence of a free USB connector on the PC port, but also that the operating system on the PC is able to detect
automatically a Compass SC-USB connected to the said serial port.
The detecting function becomes operative only after carrying out the installation procedure of the specific drivers for connection to Compass SC-USB.
Such drivers are also present on the Securbase Light/Plus installation CD, but they cannot be used in a Windows NT environment.
X:\USB Driver -->
The installation procedure of the USB drivers for Compass SC-USB is carried out automatically by means of the operating system in use and in particular
by means of the Plug&Play detecting function of the USB devices. This function is present on Windows 98 (Second Edition) and following versions.
1• Once Compass SC-USB is connected to the USB serial port of the PC, this connection provides immediate display of the screen page detecting the
new USB device.
2• Subsequently, the operating system starts the installation procedure guided by the new hardware.
3• Press “Next” to continue with the guided installation of the new hardware.
4• From the following screen page, select “Find a driver suitable for the peripheral” and press “Next”.
5• Select box “Specify a path” and press “Next”.
6• At this point, a window will appear with the request of inserting the peripheral installation disk. In the bottom part of the window, type: “X:\USBDRIVER”
(where “X” corresponds to the letter of the unit where the cd-rom has been inserted).
7• Select the “FTDIBUS.INF” file and click on “Open”.
8• From the following window, press “Finish” to complete the installation. At this point, the “USB HIGH SPEED SERIAL CONVERTER” driver is in-
stalled.
9• After a few seconds, another new hardware installation window will appear: repeat the procedure from point 1 to 8, paying attention to point 7 where
the “FTDIPORT.INF” file must be selected.
Having followed the instructions and pressed the “Finish” button for this driver too, the Plug&Play detecting procedure is completed and the Compass
SC-USB unit will be shown among the hardware devices recognised by the operating system.
From this point on, Securbase Light/Plus will be able to communicate with Compass SC-USB and the installation procedure for the USB drivers can
be considered as completed.
Compass SC
The Compass SC installation follows the instructions given in the relevant user’s manual. This contains all the information referring to the connections
which must be created in order to achieve communication between Compass SC and the PC, and between Compass SC and Compass 485 and/or the
RTD-CA unit.
The Securbase Light/Plus software version which is to be used also depends on the number of devices connected on the local RS 485 network.
Only the Plus version is able to manage several protected zones and installations with more than 16 readers.
Moreover, as already mentioned, the type of Compass SC board and in particular the interface for serial connection to the PC is to be carefully chosen
based on the availability of equivalent RS 232 or USB interface on the PC.
NOTE
• Securbase Light/Plus can also operate with Compass SC disconnected. However, in this case, a limited set of functions will be available.
• Securbase Light/Plus is the real-time configuration and monitoring software, only indispensable for the installation configuration operation but not for
the actual access control activity, which Compass SC exercises in an entirely autonomous mode and without interruptions.
