4  USB flash drive

4.1 5MMUSB.2048-01

4.1.1 General information

USB flash drives are storage media that are easy to replace. Because of their fast data transfer (USB 2.0), USB

flash drives are ideal for use as portable data storage. Without requiring additional drivers ("Hot Plug & Play" -

except with Windows 98SE), the USB flash drive can immediately act as an additional drive where data can be

read or written.

Information:

We reserve the right to supply alternative products due to the vast quantity of USB flash drives available

on the market and their corresponding short product lifecycle. Therefore, the following measures might

be necessary in order to boot from these flash drives:

The flash drive must be reformatted or in some cases even re-partitioned (set active partition).

The flash drive must be at the top of the BIOS boot order, or alternatively the IDE controllers can
also be deactivated in the BIOS. This can be avoided in most cases if a "fdisk /mbr" command
is also executed on the USB flash drive.
