4.1.4 Sampling Point
Forced Air Furnace
– When testng atmospherc burner or gravty
vented, forced ar heatng equpment wth a clamshell or sectonal heat
exchanger desgn, test each of the exhaust ports at the top of the heat ex-
changer. The probe should be nserted back nto each of the exhaust ports
to obtain a flue gas sample, before any dilution air is mixed in.
Hot Water Tank
– Domestc hot water tanks wth the ‘bell’ shaped draft
dverter on top can be accurately tested by nsertng the probe tp drectly
into the top of the fire tube below the diverter.
80% Efficiency Fan Assist or Power Vented
– Combuston testng of
fan assst or power vented, furnaces/bolers should be done through a hole
drlled n the vent mmedately above the nducer fan.
90% Efficiency Condensing
– Condensng furnaces/bolers can be tested
through a hole drlled n the plastc vent ppe (when allowed by the manufac-
turer or local authority of jurisdiction) or taken from the exhaust termination.
Atmospheric or Gravity Vented Boiler
– Bolers, whch have a ‘bell’
shaped draft dverter drectly on top, should be tested drectly below the
dverter through a hole drlled n the vent connector.
