Commissioning as a brake
The stopping distance depends on the following when stopping a dangerous
movement:
W
Piston rod speed,
W
Moving mass,
W
Mounting orientation of the LU6 locking unit,
W
Response time of the LU6 locking unit,
W
Switching time of the exhaust valve,
W
Flow of the exhaust valve, and
W
Tubing length to the exhaust valve.
Proceed as follows for commissioning:
O
Commission the system according to the system specification.
O
Set the air supply of your system so that the minimum operating pressure
of 4 bar is adhered to.
–
Release: The
holding cartridge in the LU6 locking unit is released
by the pressurizing compressed air connection (
9
).
–
Holding/braking:
The holding cartridge is actuated and the piston rod
or round bar clamped by fully exhausting the compressed air connection (
9
)
to 0 bar.
7
Disassembly
1.
Exhaust the LU6 locking unit.
This will wedge it to the piston rod.
2.
Then exhaust the cylinder.
3.
Remove the compressed air tubing from the LU6 locking unit (
9
) and from
the cylinder (
1
).
4.
Release the cylinder mountings and take the cylinder, including the locking unit,
out of the system.
Proceed in the reverse order to that described in the section “Assembling the
LU6 locking unit on an ISO cylinder or round bar” if you are using the LU6 locking unit
in combination with a round bar and need to disassemble it as an individual
component.

If Malfunctions Occur
Danger of accidents due to uncontrolled movement of the piston rod!
If pressure or mass is only applied to one cylinder chamber when pressurizing
the LU6 locking unit (releasing the clamping jaws), this causes a jumping
movement in the piston rod (retracting or extracting).
O
Ensure that a
balance of forces
exists on the drive cylinder piston before
pressurizing the LU6 locking unit, by applying pressure to both cylinder
chambers using an appropriate control, for example. Furthermore, observe
that the piston surface area difference may lead to undesired piston rod
movements.
O
Configure the controls accordingly.
It is essential to verify the theoretical stopping distance calculated
in the design by measuring the actual stopping distance before
commissioning as a brake. Detailed information on calculation
can be found on the LU6 locking unit online catalog page.

Repair and Service
O
Disassembly of the LU6 locking unit and repair attempts are not permitted.
O
In case of technical problems or a required repair, please contact your local
AVENTICS service.
O
Remove the LU6 locking unit from the system as described in the section
“Disassembly” and send the components, in combination with the attached
cylinder if possible, to AVENTICS.
10 Care and Maintenance
The LU6 locking unit is care and maintenance-free.
O
Check the piston rod for contamination every 200,000 strokes. Remove any
soiling with a dry cloth.
O
Exchange the LU6 locking unit once the maximum total braking energy
is reached (see “Technical Data”).
