SKIP
318 Avaya VPNmanager Configuration Guide Release 3.7
SKIP
Simple Key-Management for Internet Protocol – SKIP differs from ISAKMP
in the area of negotiation. In SKIP, all of the security parameters are identified
within each SKIP secured packet in the form of a SKIP header. The
cryptographic algorithms defining the VPN services in a SKIP VPN are
predefined, instead of negotiated dynamically as in ISAKMP.
Smart Card
A special type of credit-card like authentication device (assigned to an
individual user) that offers a greater degree of private network access security.
Split Tunneling
Split tunneling allows the remote client to simultaneously maintain both a VPN
(secure) connection and a clear connection. This function is active by default,
however, disabling Split Tunneling turns it off allowing only secure VPN traffic
from the remote client’s computer. Control of Split Tunneling is normally set
when the Dyna-Policy configuration download to the remote client’s computer
occurs.
SSL
Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol that provides authentication for servers and
browsers as well as secure communications between a web server and
browser. Used by the VPNmanager Console to communication with the security
gateways and the Directory Server.
Syslog
Syslog enables each security gateway in the VPN to provide logging data to a
specified destination for historical purposes.
T
Triple DES
A cryptographic algorithm based on DES that encrypts a block of data three
times with different keys.
U
User Groups
User Groups are logical groups in which individual VPN user members reside.
User Groups have a single-level hierarchy. Users can belong to more than one
User Group.
V
VPN
Virtual Private Network. A VPN allows the sending of sensitive, secured data
through an unsecure network like the Internet by using dynamically created
connections between member of the VPN.
